B-Positive

On March 11, 2010, Richard’s 8 year old cousin, Blake Buffa was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer.  We are grateful to announce that Blake is two years out of treatment and is happy and healthy, and enjoying all of the normal thrills and trials of being an 11-year-old girl!

“B Positive,” (also Blake’s blood type) is dedicated to supporting Blake and keeping connected to updates and Blake’s schedule. We wanted to give a special thank you to all our G4G family and friends for your good wishes, prayers and positive thoughts.

Check out Blake’s Facebook page for recent updates, photos and to send Blake messages. It is a fun way to stay connected!

She is currently a 4th grader in Mrs. Anderson’s class.

Even though Blake’s treatment schedule has interrupted her daily routine of school, on good days, when she is feeling up to it, she is always anxious and enjoys getting back to her class and seeing all her friends. Thank you to all the kids in 3M for all the cards they made and goodies that they have sent to Blake. Everything you do always puts a big smile on Blake’s face.

Blake attends CCD (Religious Education) at St. Gabriel’s Church in Saddle River once a week. We would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Doherty & Mrs. Quinn, our friends and Blake’s volunteer CCD teachers of the last several years. Thank you to her CCD classmates for their letters & pictures of support and prayers.

One of Blake’s favorite sports is soccer! Blake enjoys all her time that she gets to spend with her “SI” soccer team and training with Coach Paul and Bubba!

The head of Blake’s team at Sloan Kettering is Dr. Leonard Wexler, who is not only one of the world’s leading experts in soft tissue sarcoma but is also a wonderful, compassionate caring person who is great with children. Read more about Dr. Wexler here.

The Head of Blake’s Surgery team is Dr. Michael LaQuaglia. Dr. “L” was the first MSK doctor that we encountered at the beginning of our journey and he too is an unbelievably compassionate, caring and patient person who handled Blake with gentleness and care.Read more about Dr. LaQuaglia here.
